Distribution of Subsidized LEDs - Issues

The PM in his Independence Day speech outlined how LED can save energy bill of India and our real time check suggests that approximately 15 crore LED bulbs have already been distributed by Ministry of Power.

With this post we would like to seek your inputs on whether you have received the bulbs, if you have how was the process like and what were the issues.

Once we understand the issues, we will have a separate discussion on how the process can be improved and the recommendations will be submitted to the Power Minister and Ministry.

It is important that this scheme rolled out by the Government reaches the citizens on the ground timely and effectively.

We look forward to your inputs! more

In many other states like AP, Tamilnadu, the residents have been informed to collect subsidised LED bulbs at the electricity billing payment counter and this has been advertised in the electricity bill itself. I am aware of many of my friends who have collected the subsidised LED bulbs from AP and TN. I have tried to get subsidised LED bulbs in Mumbai by calling up the toll free number. Sad to say that they have been most irresponsive. I am yet to find out where to get the subsidised LED bulbs inspite of my best efforts. Looks like Mumbai officials have created a huge maze for distribution of LED Bulbs inspite of the site http://www.ujala.gov.in/state-dashboard/maharashtra mentioning that 6,86,667 bulbs have been distributed in Mumbai alone apart from 9,07,812 bulbs in Kalyan, 4,20,665 bulbs in Thane, etc. more
Majority of participants have stated that there is no official announcement in their states about this subsidized bulbs being available. What more info do you want ? more
Govt has to figure out distribution or else this will be a local scam providing funding for next election to state govts more
I don't know from where and how to get the bulbs in Mumbai. There is no information about it more
The LED bulbs are of various types, wattage with glass / plastic casing. The better ones are expensive and only the cheaper quality are being pushed into the market. The minimum acceptable wattage and luminous are specified and publicised. For far too long people are NOT told the complete story by manufacturers and instead shoddy and poor quality are pushed through various means on unsuspecting consumers. In particular Chinese LEDs are being pushed .At a cost of Rs 100 the bulb should have glass casing with minimum 20 watts . People will find out on there own by word and mouth publicity in case a cost effective product is available. With mass production the cost will come down further. more
