Do we need smart cities or smart people?
I belong to a small very village in Haryana, and I visited there yesterday. The roads are clean, the homes are clean and then the people look clean. And then I realised I live in the capital of the country. The place that has to be the best of the best in the country. The people who represent the entire nation live here.
But what is it in reality- I gave a thought and it was not that great. Garbage lying here and there. Small streets broken for years in the name of providing amenities, amenities like sewage - does it take 2 years, 5 years or 10 years to complete the work. Do we deserve to walk through dust, dirt, potholes, garbage, broken pipes of water to reach our homes. I don't think so. We are residents of a highly developing nation, the country that is giving high GDP growth, the country that's making its mark and market in the globe. Then what is it in real - there is a I don't care attitude. Cars parked here and there. No one stops. Tractors and trucks make their way in the streets ( or Gali what we feel proud to say) and scratch the cars, break the drains, hit children, create nonsense around. Who stops, not me and not you. The cable wires broken lying everywhere, and we don't care coz we are all Spider-Man. Music playing loud all through nights, I never saw a cop stopping even he passes from nearby, residents don't stop coz tomorrow they will need to play- for a birthday party, for a Jaagran, for no reason. We have become tuned to create problems and face them ourselves. We don't realise what is good and what is not. We park our cars in way of others. We block the roads when there is a construction. We don't care because nobody cares. The day one starts thinking on it others will also have to do it. Let's try our level and we all do something that our city looks smarter than it is today. more
