Doctor Services on Trains - Inputs

Dear Railways Circle Members:

There are times when citizens need Doctor services while in trains. One of the examples where this service becomes of immense value is when a passenger on board is having cardiac arrest.

HC has issued a directive to Indian Railways to have Doctor Services available in trains. However, given the massive shortage of Doctors in the country, this is quite a challenge.

With this post, we request your inputs on how can Railways provide Doctor Services on trains. Innovative ideas that are cost effective and practical to implement would be of great value.

Dear Ministry, Last year I travelled on Madgaon- CST express which departs madgaon at 12 pm. As we were in a Non-Ac the smoke engulfed the compartment most of the time. Due to this my infant felt suffocated and was seriously unwell. I begged and begged and begged the TC to check the train muster to see if there is a doctor on board. But he was more into making money by booking passengers who were travelling in the wrong compartment, requesting commission wherever possible and upgrading other passengers. Tired of requesting i went to the AC compartment where the TC followed me and asked me to take a ticket for standing in the AC compartment. Such is the inhuman attitude of your TTs that they dont care if a person is unwell or dying . No matter what you can take from here you first educate your TTs to be human and least inform the next station if there is a medical emergency. more
Sir My suggestion is to utilize the Doctors on board/on train. You have the system of marking Dr. in the reservation slip. Just make it compulsory for all to mark the occupation & mobile number of passenger. By tracing that a Doctor is on journey on a particular train computer can send sms to that particular Doctor requesting him to attend any health emergency of any passenger who needs medical help for survival. In lieu of that service of that Doctor Railway should give him some moneytary or other benefit. First Aid Box, Oxygen Cylinder with breathing mask and some life saving medicine can be made available with the Guard/Head TTE/Any specific coach attender of the train. more
It is preferred to have one TTE cum Doctor for one train.he will be TTE for ac compartments. This will be more economical with effetive usage and services. more
Yes there should be First aid box available in the coaches. Once I was travelling and the co-passanger got cut above the eyes & started bleeding due to the bottle stand. I flashed the message to the DRM Ratlam but there was no response from him Finally I have to take the help from DRM VAdodara. But he could help only when the train enters the jurisdiction of Vadodara DRM, which took one & half hr from the incidence. In the mean time The passengers who were carrying the first aid came to the rescue of the victim. Had the DRM ratlam responded & provided the Medical facility immediately things would have been better. The railway officers should be made more sensitive towards the Medical needs. DRM Ratlam is worse in providing the services. more
