Doctors affinity with medical shops

I had experienced such kind of doctors prescription. When all prescribed medicines availability only in one shop i indisted for alternative medicines to buy from others too. The claver doctor replied, if the chemist is reputed, his prescribed medicine will be available. After frustration I said the doctor, 2- 3 shopes offer 15 percent discount hence requested him to prescribe medicines generally available in all shopes, then, he agreed. more  

This basic method is rampant with lesser known doctors or those whose fee is less and they make money in such indirect ways. Mostly the poor and less educated people tend to be the primary targets. For other categories generally, doctors size-up their patients and use these kinds of tricks only with the people who are likely to be gullible or less likely to complain to any authority or those who are in some kind of an emergency situation. Doctors do tend to have such side practices (tie-ups) and it may be done in much more sphisticated ways that it will be difficult to fathom. Many years ago I had typhoid and was recommned to get admitted to a hospital that was a bit away while a more reputed one was closer. I realised much later that the doctor got a cut out of this and thats why I was sent to a smaller hospital that was a bit further away. I did not go to that doctor after that. I have seen certain doctors who prescribe medicines or treatment which is unnecessary. There was a dentist who recommended that two of my wisdom teeth need pulling out some 15 years ago. I took a second opinion and till date those teeth survive as they were instrinsically fine and needed no treatment. The system works on a commission model or unnecessary treatment/prescriptions and doctors do this as lust for money over-rides public service. more
