Domestic Violence Discussion

Within the four walls of homes, the violence against women is quite high. Domestic violence against is widely prevalent, but has remained largely invisible. Statistics reveal that 45% of Indian women are slapped, kicked or beaten by their husbands. (ICRW 2002) .32% had committed acts of violence against their pregnant wives. Every 60 minutes a woman dies in India due to domestic violence. Women accept violence because social norms sanction them. At the same time, cultural conditioning and economic dependence prevent the vast majority of women leaving their marital homes.

Can we please work on this in the circle. Come up with something that protects the husband against fraudulent charges but in case of clear evidence, there is non bailable arrest. more

Gopalji Srivastava We should make forum of each and every women/girl/man to take care of Domestic Violence of neighbours. The member of Forum may inform to Forum as well as to police for such incidences. Criticising, demorlising, degrading and if needed legal action should be taken against such violent incidences. In general these incidents occure due to momentary agressiveness and the couple love each other passionately. more
There should be a SOS button/ SOS number in Mobile phones to call in emergency. more
Marriage certificate is of no use. Lack of education can not be the reason as literacy is high now. What required is proper understanding that either boy or girl is superior over other but EQUAL. I know a case where both of them educated but boy is not able to perform sexual relationship due to erectile dysfunction. How could this be treated. Whether the husband need to be protected as Anuksha has pointed out. It depends on the merits of the case. No one can compel a teenage girl to live with such husband. Judiciary is also taking longer time in which case the girl will lose the age. more
Correct please. more
Can marriage registration/certificate be a contract? With terms and conditions more
Betrothal, the recently mandated Marriage Registration Certificate both cannot be construed under the definition of Contract . Prime Terms connected with Married life are being set in Section 13 of Hindu Marriages Act and such conditions only are justified means of general terms in Marriage . more
Well in my opinion the root cause of the domestic violance is the lack of education, when I say education it means the development of one's mind, his or her ablity not only to understand his rights but also his or her responsibility towards the spouse, once that is there the problem will be minimise : Today everyone is aware of his/her rights without responsibility and thus the problem. We have to culcate the habit of mutual understanding, before demanding one's right he should be ready to understanding his responsibilities towards the other. more
