Don't fool the customers

MRP printed on food products sold in airlines malls and cinema halls is different from those printed on the same products sold in the regular market. The disparity is quite large; for example, Paperboat juices are marked Rs 100 in airlines whereas it is Rs 25 in the market. Cold drink cans are sold for Rs 50 in airports whereas it is Rs 25 to 30 in the market. Besides, have you noticed that water in sold in different packaging; you wo'nt find 750 ml bottle in the open market except in malls and restaurants and these are priced much higher.

The stock argument is that this is done in order to recover the cost of carrying. Fine, but why do they adopt dubious means. They should mention that the MRP is such and such and cost of carrying/service is charged extra. more

The only answer to what buyers consider overpricing, is competition. In government owned airports, reasonably priced food stalls stop this problem overnight! In P-P-P projects, it should be made compulsory to do allow this. In cinemas, there should be a law to permit customers to carry their own food and water. But remember it's all about location. The owner of the expensive location which could be you or me owning a flat inherited from parents, will want maximum rent. The tenant or buyer, will want to pay the least. If, as buyers, we control ourselves, then demand comes down, and so do prices... more

I have recently noticed one thing in PVR cinemas which is owned by Reliance Group.after order from Court regarding not to charge more than MRP on drinking water in multiplexes (water is highest selling and almost all brands 1 ltr priced at RS 20). I have seen a brand which is not available in market at RS 40 for 500 ml with Printed MRP of RS 40 and when I asked for Bisleri to counter sales person I got a reply that only one Brand is available which is printed MRP of RS 40 for 500 ml. Now in this case it is looks like they find a new way of making money by introduce a brand which is not available in market more
My wife and me had visited a Subway outlet on Hennur-Bagalur Road and were taken aback when charged Rs.30/- for a 500ml of bottled water.the strange thing was it was no major bransd and on enquiry learnt that it was supplied by the Vendor to them, and the MRP was printed as Rs.30/-. Now is this what we call daylight robbery? more
