Drainage in Urban India - Inputs on Issues

Dear all:

Sewage issues and Blocked Drains have been highlighted as a challenge by some of you.

With this post, we would like to request you to list Drainage issues you have experienced in your respective areas/cities.

Once we know the issues, we will look at Root Causes followed by Solutions to help improve Drainage Systems in Urban India.

There is a small machine of the size of a bucket which can be buried in the yard of the flats/houses. This will grind the sewage and pump through small flexible tubes. The sludge and water are pumped up the slope for several metres and get collected in a separator which separates solid waste and treats water to garden use or feeding public urinals/ toilets. more  
In many city areas drains are missing or open. Where they exist by luck, not being maintained. Manhole covers are missing. Development of new areas, plots, roads must go hand-in-hand with proper drains. Contract should be given only to those who have proper technical know-how. Presently most of the contracts are bagged by local corporators who get it done thru incompetent contractors more
