DTH service
Initially their rates were very modest. After couple of years they changed the rates from annual to semi annual. They made the annual rates into semi annual i.e., the rates approximately doubled. I have no complaints with them. For the rates I was paying I was getting almost all the channels. After the new rules introduced by TARI, for the same price I will get only fewer channels. There is no reduction in price. When you see the rates given in the list, popular channels are charged exorbitantly when compared with other channels. Sports channels which are popular are charged between Rs.19 to Rs.22 per month plus taxes. Likewise popular regional channels and Hindi channels are costing more. Since no broadcaster indicated the price for each channel before, but only offered bouquet wise, we have no means to compare how much they have increased after the new rules. I am sure the broadcasters are taking advantage of the situation. In the final analysis, TRAI has not done any favor to the customers, but only helped the broadcasters. The circle should take up these issues with TARI and also ask to reduce the GST to the barest minimum or nil since the TV is only the media through which the people new the happenings around them. After all the broadcasters' earnings are from the advertisers and they can survive even if the rates are moderate. more
