Dual MRP at Malls, Restaurants
A complaint was lodged by me for dual MRPs printed on Kinley water bottles of CocaCola being sold at Food Court for MRP Rs.20 and inside INOX Cinema for MRP Rs.50, in Rcity Mall. The reply received from Controller, LMO, Maharashtra is reproduced below, which justifies dual MRP as per Rule 2 (cc) of Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011. Therefore the circular issued by Ministry of Consumer Affairs may not be enforceable till the Rules are amended by the Government.

gone through your mail. came to know that you are getting same kinley packaged water bottle at different places at different MRP printed on the bottle. As per the rule 2 (cc) of the Legal Metrology (packaged commodities) Rules, 2011 the R city mall is getting Kinley packaged water bottle printed with MRP Rs. 50/-. As per above rule he is getting said packages directly from manufacturer for used by them as a Institutional Consumer.
from your mail it is clear that they are not overcharging ,so we can't take action against them.

It is strange to know that Law permits manufactures to sell same product at different MRP. If you give a serious thought, according to my knowledge, there is no law to regulate and control pricing of products. It is the manufacturer who decides what should be selling price/MRP of a product. This is not in the interest of consumers. Any views on this? more
