Effective Food Waste Disposal for Swachh Bharat

Here are the key inputs from you on what can be done to address Food Waste towards a Swachh Bharat.

If you have any additional ideas, please respond with your comments so they can be included in submission to the Swachh Bharat and Urban Development leadership.

Effective Food Waste Disposal for Swacch Bharat

1. Institutions producing food should cook accordingly and if found excess, send to certain charity homes before they get stale
2. A food collection local circle should be started with NGOs having feet on ground where all restaurants, caterers could send an e-request for collection and food is distributed to poor.
3. Restaurants should collect dry and wet waste separately
4. Mini bio-gas plants should be encouraged in each colony/RWA
5. Composting machines should be installed in every locality
6. Converting food waste into bio-gas at home level could be the most effective solution
7. While wet waste collection , one more category of edible waste for cattle could be created
8. Vermi-composting should be made mandatory in buildings
9. Disposed oil to be collected by a municipal tanker separately
10. A fine should be imposed on throwing food waste in open
11. RWAs should name/shame citizens throwing food waste in open more

Food waste management is a very challenging topic in A country like India. Here citizens are so insensitive to this issue that those who commit this crime even don't know that they have done some crime. Even many of the educated people come into this category. So first of all the gravity of this issue have to be emphasized to masses of the society. Then major part of this problem can be solved by least effort. more
One should see the Police Stations across the country littered with innumerable number of vehicles seized, not released to the owners, which are getting rusted and wasted which is nothing but a national wastage giving shabby appearance. When they will be released to the owners? Why this national wastage? more
We have to find a sustainable mode of disposal of all the types of wastes. Some things that come to mind are listed below: 1. Kitchen waste can be composted and converted into manure which in turn can be used for gardening. This should be preferably done within a locality/society/complex itself. 2. Electronic waste has to be detoxified and disposed off properly. 3. dry waste has to be segregated into paper, glass, plastics etc and has to be recycled. more
