Electric bicycles and cars
Does India have any standards for electric bicycles and cars or are we just dependent on our companies to emulate the west and then standards will come later.

Please note, we do not do any research or design or manufacture in India and therefore have no standards. We simply follow or emulate standards by the original designer and give them our initials like what most of the the product importers/suppliers do in India. So what you get is what you purchased. Forget about standards!!!

We also need infrastructure like charging points all over the place just like petrol bunks.

The Govt. seems confused and desperate. Sometimes, they speak about ethnol, then BS-VI and finally EVs. Very frequently, they arew changing the policy/focus which is very harmful to the automobile industry. There must be long term policy in place. Vehicles are not only major contributors of air pollution. To insulate the Indian economy from the impact of wild increase in the crude oil price, blending of ethnol with petrol seems to be the best option. It will give boost to the local industry/farm produce. Discarding 15 years commerical vehciules will provide extended help. Putting too much premium on EVs may not be a wise step as coal is used in producing electricity which adds to pollution and eats out natural resource. The initial cost of EVs is very high which every Indian cannot afford. The standards for every product should be freezed before its launch to avoid any controvery later on.
