With a deep sense of regret I would like to bring to your kind attention the difficulty faced by me in booking a Tatkal ticket on IRCTC site. I tried to book a ticket for one person in sleeper class on train no. 12163 Chennai Express exactly at 11 A.M. when booking opens. After filling the details and captcha code etc. when I clicked make payment it took a long time to open State bank of India net banking portal. When i filled my user Id and password for making payment the response was Bank site did not give complete information. By the time I again went through the process of booking all berths were booked and waitlist number was 45. All this happened within 2 Minutes.
Then I tried booking on Train No. 11013 Coimbatore Express which was showing 36 berths available under Tatkal. I opted for "Book Ticket only if confirmed berth is available" and completed the process of booking. However after making payment I found that Wait Listed Tatkal Ticket with 52 waiting number PNR no. 8402432074 was booked. It appears that the Agents though not allowed to book Tatkal tickets for Sleeper Class from 11 A.M. to 12 noon are able to block out individuals from booking.
To overcome this problem I had suggested in Make Railways better portal that IRCTC should modify the ticket booking software to accept advance payment of ticket cost before the booking opens. This will ensure that no time is wasted in booking due to payment processing delays.
Perhaps it may help to make it compulsory to link Aadhar Number to User ID for internet booking on IRCTC site.
