Emergency Quota for VIPs

I have been reading posts and comments in the circle. Is it true that 80000 seats a day are available under emergency/vip quota and these tickets are sold at base prices as opposed to premium tatkal rates.

Can Railways bite the bullet and rationalize this so its available only for mps and genuine cases of medical/death emergency say 5000 per day.

assume only 20000 seats taken per day times 500 Rs additional revenue per seat times 365 days thats 365 crores right there. Also imagine seats that are under EQ where TTE discretion is at play and hence corruption.

I am sure the ones in the know can do exact math and fix this. more

It was in the midst of Diwali Vacation,I wanted to go for my departed mothers last rites, to Nagpur from Mumbai, but could not go because of non availability of reservation, cost of flights were exorbitant, and not affordable! I could not get Tatkat quota,I even gave a requisition to the DRM office at Mumbai CST, giving the reason, but......they did not bother to provide me a birth from their emergency quota of births, perhaps they did not feel the occasion emergency enough.....though the matter was an emergency situation. At last I took my car put and drove 1000 Km to Nagpur from Mumbai to attend my mothers funeral and complete the last rites. I would like to suggest, that there should a special quota of births say 10, in Second Sleeper Class, in every long distance trains which should be allotted to such emergencies and in case of job interviews. If remained unused, they can be released to the WL passengers at the time of preparation of the charts. more
I am delighted to see that so many people respond on this platform. Is Suresh Prabhu also in this? more
VIP Quota need to be done with in a Democratic Country and jet these guys buy the tickets under Tatkal System . The MPs take dozens of their Chamchas under this quota ?????? more
VIP quota may be decreased to 25% of what is prevailing as of this date. Further, VIP quota may be increased by 50% or more in only 2AC.
