There is nothing new in this trend. Every year during the rainy season and afterwards for around a couple of months (until the new crops are available in the market) the prices of vegetables including potatoes & onions go up. Once the crops are poured in the market during November onwards, the prices are nosedived to such an extent that the farmers do not get back even the cost of harvesting thereof but that is not our headache and being consumers, we are concerned only with the price rise ! I am afraid, the day 100% of our people start consuming required quantity of essentials and vegetables/fruits, their prices will sour further and availability will be uncertain even for the elite group of people because of wide gap between demand and supply. more

Fully agree that this subject must be in the discussion. The farmers continue to struggle while the middle men make the huge profits. more

Excuse me. You are only worried about urban. Please visit the villages and see the life they are leading. You are talking about 29 percent reduced consumption of veggies. The farmers are not even able to meet both ends. more

People want to increase FARMER's income so the rates have to increase. Farmers are least concerned with the impact on common man. They always insist for increasing MSP. Opposition is opposing AGNIVIR for reducing GOVT.,. Burden on its resources. VI th Pay Commission increased the Basic pay of COLONEL, Brigadier, Major-General to the same Basic Pay of 37,500/- as also of Reader/Associate Professor/Professor. Almost, if not all get promoted to the rank of DIRECTOR, Who get the same basic of Jt. Secretary & consequent retirement Benefits. none of opposition may even be knowing what is happening to the prices since someone will be footing their bills like the tax payer.They do not care and they will speak only on matters which does not concern ordinary people more
