Exorbitant charges in Hospitals

It is noticed that all hospitals are charging exorbitantly.
1. Firstly why is there a difference in charges when you have taken a mediclaim policy.
2. The treatment and doctor fees and other charges vary as you opt for semi private from general, or private from semi private, a/c extra. What has the patient comfort to do with the variation of charges. The patient is same , treatment and doctors same the why do the rates vary.
3. Administrative charges, charged other than regular billing charges. What are these charges??
4. In house doctor visit charges, Staff(nurse) visit charges etc. and many more charges.
5. When you opt for treatment and admit the patient room charges must include all the in house charges.

This is mere cheating and looting the needy.
Isn't it a corruption in a different type. more

How much can the Government do when most Indians and Indian institutions are like this only- corrupt, inefficient, having poor professional and ethical standards and competence, lack sincerity and application. Unless there is an attitudinal overhaul and change I see an uphill task for India to even meet China's growth, development and economic prosperity standards. All our tom tomming of our greatness aside. more
As a foreigner here, I find that Hospital charges here are absolutely unreasonable for a developing country highly illogical more
THIS IS WHERE GOOD GOVERNANCE IS REQUIRED...... more
The atrocities listed are only a sample. Unless the Central govt. appoints a commission to regulate this profession in respect of charges and creates its own mechanism to enforce the rules poor public have no way to come out of this blackmail. Recently I took my wife to a local physician twice for consultation for cold, cough etc. I paid Rs.150 on each occasion as his fees. Having forgotten to collect receipt from him I went to him 2 days later and requested for a receipt for the amount paid. But he refused to give on the ground that I should have collected the receipt on the dates of payment only as it will create discrepancy in his records if he issues receipt later! I tried to convince him but he was prepared to counter convince me for over 20 minutes but not to issue receipt for such a small sum. Instead of tracing black money outside the country if the govt. throws its net on such professions tax revenue will jump up enormously. more
It is observed that when Hospitals know patient is having a mediclaim insurance, they charge exhorbitantly. One way to avoid high charges is 'don't give mediclaim details to the Hospital." There is no machinery to stop hospitals from overcharging except for going to Consumer Forums. Consumer Forums have also become expensive as lawyers are allowed to represent their clients. In extreme cases one has no option but to go to Consumer Forum. more
