Exorbitant electricity bills in Rourkela, Odisha by Tata Power

TATA Power has taken up the responsibility of electricity supply since August 2021. The management has reached the height of cheating the consumers since then. Either they don't take the meter reading regularly and give a slab bill which is quite high, or I can't guess how they calculate the meter reading that most consumers are getting exorbitant bill amount. Since the last two or three months, I have been getting very high bill amounts. I complained to the customer care of TPWODL attaching my bill but no action has been taken as yet by the company. This month I got a bill amount of Rs. 1373 with a consumption of 271unit in 40 days.
I am a single woman and use the light and fan in whichever room I am working or resting. Excepting a few gadgets like the fridge, inverter and CCTV, the rest of the switches are most of the time switched off. I don't think so, the meter reading taken by the electricity department is correct. I doubt some kind of foul play to cheat me because this never happened when the electricity department was under the government more

An amount of Rs.1,373.00 for consuming 271 units means around Rs.5 per unit, which is neither on high side nor exorbitant. There are many states where Electricity Boards are under government control but rate per unit is higher. As far as the correctness of the meter reading is concerned , you can yourself verify it while reading is taken or even after receiving the bill you can verify to reach at the approximate. more
This is perhaps a common phenomena after privatisation across the country. I had a very poor experience in Delhi. These agencies are simply bridging the gap by penalising common people. It may take time to set the system right. Govt. is usually reluctant to intervene. more
In Kolkata the electricity rates are much higher....the slabs have been brought down to 25 units only to reach the next slab rates, so everyone reaches the highest slab very fast...so if u cross 300 units, the rate is Rs 9 /unit.....for commercial like offices it quickly reaches Rs 10.5 per unit....CESC of Sanjiv Goenka is making super profits in Kolkata due to total monopoly....In other countries like Australia, the entire city like Melbourne is broken into three zones. Each zone will be managed seperately so that there is no monopoly. Now within each zone, one company can go the generation, another company will have to do the transmission (heavy duty high voltage power supply upto a point) , then another company has to do the distribution ( low voltage supply till the house), and then several companies will do the retailing bringing in huge competion and good rates for the consumer. So one company cannot control the entire network. If there is more than one hour of pawer cut continuously, every household effected will be paid a dollar amount as compensation for each hour of power cut by the electricity distribution company. more
Those wome who consume 300 units/month, should shift to Punjab. There is also free travel, monthly pension, free ration, free medical free house. A friend of mine in Mumbai is keen to shift to Punjab as cost of living is very there. more
Where the money comes from? Do the Punjab government do any developmental works or only running free ration shops! more
