experience with olx
this is regarding the post by Consumer Affairs Dept about olx and quickr, Yes, this has happened very recently to me. I posted an ad for sofa set sale. I received curious phone calls, some were very lewd and extremely disturbing. Most of them asked to enable transfer of money , thankfully I refused each time as I needed cash. the OLX site is totally hopeless. Please DO NOT post on it. more

I am of the view that these commercial sites must be registered with government cell under commerce ministry and citizens must be able to check for such commercial sites credentials. more

Fraud People are using OLX to execute their Banking Fruad through OLX. Somebody called me and said that he is going to pay me and asked me to authorize through the sms I had received. That message was not to deposit amount to me but to withdraw amount from my account. The message said debit, a layman may not be able to understand whether it is to deposit or withdraw. In another case i was looking for a scooty and I found one very good deal. Contacted the seller, seller send me all kind of documents. like adhaar, driving licence, RC, PAN card of the scooty owner. He also sent the army canteen card to me. After looking all of these documents and after looking at the price deal I was getting I was not able to give a second thought. He claimed that he has taken this scooty on his sisters husband's name. and also gave me a whole kind of story in which he said that this scooty should be taken from army where i have to deposit 2500 amount to his paytm account which will be adjusted in the final amount. This made me to suspect. I went to the address mentioned in the documents and came to known that this fraud took all documents from them once and now using them to make fraud. I was stunned understanding the whole story. What a smart master plan. Please be aware of OLX. I am not saying stop using it but be very causious. do not pay anything online. see the product and then pay. Another thing which OLX should do is they should allow Registration based on valid proofs. so fake users may not be able to register. more

PRIYA : YOU ARE RIGHT. IN INDIA, THERE ARE A NUMBER OF SUCH FRAUDS WHO LURK AROUND TO GET DETAILS OF YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, ETC ETC. THESE E COMMERCE SITES MAY BE VERY POPULAR OUTLETS FOR SUCH TRANSACTIONS IN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES, USA AND IN SELECT FAR EASTERN COUNTRIES WHERE THE REGULATOR IS A POWERFUL ENTITY. IN INDIA, WE HAVE VERY LITTLE SAFEGUARDS FROM FRAUDSTERS AND THE REGULATORY BODIES ARE TOOTHLESS. HENCE, ALTHO I DO NOT PERSONALLY DEAL IN SUCH E COMMERCE, I HAVE FEW FRIENDS WHO DO AND ALWAYS PREFER " CASH " AND DIRECT 'FACE TO FACE' DEALS - TO FINALIZE THE SALE. more
