Government Asks BCCI To Take Steps To Prevent Surrogate Tobacco Ads By Sportspersons
Letter written to both the BCCI and SAI
Director of Health Services has requested both the outfits to sign an anti-tobacco Declaration of Interest form and also refrain from promoting surrogacy advertising of tobacco or alcohol related products in the events hosted by the BCCI and SAI.

Fact is since IPL's inception in 2008, a few leading alcohol and tobacco brands have partnered with the franchises, majorly through surrogacy advertising.

I fail to understand why Shahrukh Akshay and Ajay who have networth over 500 crores need to Kamla Pasand ads.
I can understand Shehwag Kapil Dev and Gavaskar once. They are all a national shame. more

Too little and too late. Action should be to disgorge profits of all those who conspire in such acts. These acts are against public interest. Even today beedis attract low rate of tax while cigarettes are taxed as sin goods. Why such double standards? Are poor peoples lives cheap? There are similar instances with liquor and several other health risk products. Why not make production and supply of such goods difficult in the first place? The fact is that governments eye revenues from such products and politicians probably get kickbacks/casus too so they wouldn't bat an eye-lid. Why blame the so-called stars who will do anything for money. Are they any different from our politicians? more
Not only tobacco also hot drinks should be banned. If these people had any sense or responsibility towards society and family they would not have participated in the advt.these people can go to any extent for money and do not care as to what happens to the society and what sort of impression it creates on the newer generation who adore these people. If their family people take these tobacco products what will they say to them .Will they allow their children to tobacco or hot drinks. As long as their children do not take these double standard people do not care for the society or any one else as to what happens to them more
I agree with you. Should not promote Tobacco and alcohol. If Gavaskar want to eat Kamala Pasand Let him eat. Don't make it a show in media. more
Nothing to excite on the news as it is "requested" only by the director. It is really confusing why govt. is not taking any serious action to stop producing and selling these tobacco product (that is also in plastic packets) even knowing the facts that these product cause serious health problem like, cancer and their rampant use conflict with the national interest of swachh bharat. more
