Manuel Aaron: A few months back somebody called me on the phone saying he is from my bank, giving a bogus name, and said that our Bank is changing its base from Rupay to Googlepay. He read out 4 numbers from my debit card and said that to be able to continue smoothly into the new system, I should give the remaining numbers on the debit card. I told him that our bank has been periodically advising customers not to reveal any digital numbers, even if the bank staff asks. To that he said that this was a new change and if I did not give the numbers, my account would be locked and I will not be able to use my own funds. As I kept refusing to comply, his tone became increasingly unpleasant. I finally disconnected and wondered whether he was genuinely from my bank. Then, I sent a report by Email of what happened to my bank. They didnt respond!! Of course, they cannot waste any time on reports of fishing expeditions by crooks and go after them as they are perennially short staffed! End more
