The Commonwealth Human Rights initiative has done a good bit of work in documenting policing terminology for citizens. Attached, is all about FIRs including the common malpractices surrounding FIR. Procedure for filing of an FIR has to be humane. more

An FIR is a statement of facts given by the complainant minus the anger words. So he needs to present the facts as he sees not what the policeman thinks. How to give the protection to this line of sight is the issue. Why not instal a civilian clerk to file this in every police station? The present station writer is a waste. Later they can disagree with the statement. Amend IPC and CrPC to facilitate this. No short cuts possible in the matter. The civilian report and police report in separate pages constitute the FIR. more
