Improving Fire Safety in Trains
1. The air conditioning units should be regularly serviced to prevent the chances of short circuit
2. A fire helpline with integrated response centers could be started to report and address cases of fire in trains immediately
3. Regular mock fire drills should be conducted at the stations
4. Better emergency exits should be designed
5. PVC and Halogen based components should not be used in trains
6. General public should also be trained on using fire safety equipment
7. The electrical and mechanical staff should do proper maintenance of the coaches while they are in the yard
8. All safety related positions in railways should be filled ASAP to maintain better performance and keep them fire free
9. Automated water dropping/sprinkler system should be used in coaches & should be attached with smoke censor
10. A study of international standards (Europe / US)should be done, which would help in implementing those techniques which would help to reduce the fire accidents
11. A heavy fine should be charged if a person is found smoking in the train
12. Train coaches could be painted with fire retardant paint. more
