Flipkarts Shockwaves

In the environment where flipkarts valulation has been cut in half and it is postponing join dates for IIM ahmedabad, what and how should the young stealth or pre series a start ups do to ensure they survive the tough times.

Also when will the govt fund start disbursing funds to start ups or like 2015 and 2015 budget announcment the start up fund will also never start. more

Te big question is Flipkart in a loss or profit.. Also in past 4-5 years is it in a continous loss..how will this start up and very prestigious one for India, as it is a domestic online B2C Co. , survive the test of time and generate profits sufficient to payback investors.. more
Valuations based on sentiments and goodwill of the investors are creating a huge space for intangible assets. Also, share prices are marked up when big public funds pick up a large chunk of a company's share holding leading to higher valuation. Valuations based on unrealistic assumptions are unsustainable in difficult times. It is something similar to what happened in the years proceeding to 2000 with the dot com companies. It is time for accountants to think of more reasonable ways to value startups, strangely for whom the potential fortune matters more than the present status; valuations are to be based on the company's fundamentals, and a company's secured future, and not on speculations. Speculations could wreak havoc in the economy. The Government cannot possibly intervene much in a free market, but could surely work towards implementing guidelines that won't allow such a thing to occur in the first place, and then could also ensure that if good companies are to tide over worst times then they are properly backed up. more
IIT`s don`t have to wait for Flipkarts to pick them up. They can start their own and take the advantage of government schemes for "start-up" - https://youtube.com/TheSunderkt more
