Food Charges at Airport

Wonder why do food outlets at airports are so exorbitant. Flying is no more any luxury or boaster, but has become one more travel mode. We may agree on some extra overheads for the outlet but the way these outlets charge with unnecessary add ons are too much to bear. Like for eg, For Tea / coffee, they display the prices for Small/Medium/Large Cups & always claim Small is not available. A single person can neither drink a Medium or Large cup of coffee nor can he through Rs 300/- worth coffee. Similar with 3 or more quantities of parothas or any eats. Can the concened authorities look in to & control this folly. Over & above these there are no basic medicines/ life saving / emergency medicines available post security check area in any of the airport, but they do have Liquor Shops & bars !! more

!. One more travel mode 2. Exorbitant rates 3.Wastage of food. All the points are well taken. But the shop fellows are business people and behave like busyness people and not bothered about wastage of material. Many times they are just workers who play to the orders of owners sitting at a distance. All the law makers travel at the cost of the state/public. The general public who travel are afraid of procedures to complain. more
Yes. Good post . Exorbitant prices. Unacceptable by any standards. Hope govt will take this long deserved corrective measures to regulate prices. more
The Highly cost food served at Airport premises are not tasty moreover small in quantity. There is no checking for food in the Premises. A very few stalls are there having there monopoly. more
The prices being charged at airports for each of the food items can't be justified on any count. If the reasons for such exorbitant cost are high rent being paid for the space being allotted to the shop keepers by the air port authority, then the authority should reconsider their policy and bring down their rates of rental. Under no circumstances a price of Rs.110/- for a pair of 'Samos' against its real cost of Rs.15/- - Rs.20/- outside could be justified. This is just an example and prices of other materials are also 4 to 5 times higher than their actual prices. In fact the passengers travelling by air are taken as a ride and are still considered to be from the upper division(economically) of the society, who can easily bear such extra cost. But they forget that air travel is no more a luxurious in India and the very reason for such rapid growth of the industry of the nation is using of this mode of convenience by people from all sections of the society even with limited financial capacity. Looking to the rapid growth in the turn over of the eating stalls inside the airports, the airport authorities must review the pricing systems of these stall owners and initiate necessary action plans to bring down their prices to a reasonable level. more
All the media (print & electronics) are concerned of their own benefits only. If their interests are well taken care of by the shop owners of the airports, they bother little for the interests of the passengers/commuters. more
I raised this issue many times with the authorities of Enforcement Dept., but they did not bother to respond to me at all. Hope this collective effort may yield the positive result.
The rates they charge is mind blowing and unbelievable. A sneaker which is available at MRP for Rs.30/- in general will cost you Rs.75/- in Airport so you can just imagine what they can do for food items. I failed to understand even today that why we are charged so much and why no one is asking about this from all these years. No News papers writing about this, No Channels are showing this and on one si writing about this even though it is a open loot. more
Not just airports, even airlines charge exorbitantly any food purchased on board flights. more
These days, home cooked food is allowed at airports and within national flights This suits diabetic, asthmatic, chronic disease patients and families with kids more
