Food in Duronto Express

Duronto Express does not have any stops between starting & terminating stations except four/five technical stops. Food is supplied by Railways (IRCTC), the charges for which are already included in Fare. I am a frequent traveller of 12245/12246 Howrah-Yesvantpur Duronto Express. The non-veg item in Lunch & Dinner is Chicken always and the Veg item is Paneer. I have seen a good number of passengers who do not like both Chicken & Paneer. Most of them are forced to travel with Rice/Chapati and Dal only. Since the train does not stop, they can't buy food from stations. Even Egg curry or any other vegetable is not available when asked for. Does Railways (IRCTC) wants to force food-habits of passengers? If Railways can't provide alternate food items, why the use of catering service not being made optional, like the use of bed-rolls in Sleeper classes of Duronto Express? Let those who opt for catering service pay for the same and who opt out, let them arrange their own food - catering charges for them should be excluded from the fare. Otherwise let the Railways come up with alternate food dishes. more

I did not see continental dishes is made available for SL/3A class passengers. I was told, anything beyond those written on the paper (supplied with the lunch/dinner tray) cannot be arranged. more
Dear Mr. Kaul - thanks for the information. But I doubt whether it is available for SL class passengers. It might be available for 1A/2A passengers. Once my wife asked for an alternate vegetable & that could not be provided by IRCTC. We were told, anything beyond those written on the paper (supplied with the lunch/dinner tray) cannot be arranged. May be we were in 3A and hence...... more
