Is it a really an essential commodity? I don't think so. It is pity that the growers are not getting even their cost of cultivation even though at retail the commodity is sold at such cost. The government should look into the issue seriously and ensure that the farmers get reasonable price of their produces. more

To understand the pricing, we have to study the practices followed in purchasing and selling and built-in malpractices besides the logistics and wastage costs..... Yes, it is pathetic that farmer gets ₹ 1 per kg, and consumer pays ₹ 16-18 per Kg. I believe the act, procedures exist but enforcement... requires will power (political and administrative) and .... more
