Food Recall Plan

I read some where last week that FSSAI wants all food producers to have a food recall plan including that of recalling it from consumer and if not complied may cancel license. I think this is another example of impractical rules by FSSAI which will never see light of the day.

Lets say for a second Maggi product has high ash content and is proven to be unfit for humans. Maggi sells everywhere in India from all kind of stores and all kind of people buy it. How will maggi do a recall and reach out to rhediwallas, students in hostel, homes etc? more

Recalling the products from the individual consumers may not be possible & practicable but the manufacturers can conveniently recall their products from the distributors and the retailers with immediate suspension of further selling to the consumers. Even if this is done and strict compliance is ensured that would be a good step. Simultaneously, FSSAI should also ensure that the manufacturers of substandard & inferior quality food products are heavily penalised and prosecuted against in the court of law for rigorous punishment. Such action will deter the ill willed manufacturers from applying short cuts for profiteering at the cost of the consumers health & life. more
It is very good information but you know our policy anything happens after only take action more
It is the right information that Product recall is mandatory, right from manufacturer through out the supply chain up to Retailer except eating Joints and same is being implemented now after six years of FSSA implementation. The output of such recall would be ZERO as has been seen in enforcement of other sections like Food Licenses as about 20-30 % of FBOs has obtained it in six years but no action is being taken against erring FBOs, more
If anybody has manufactured sub-standard product & distributed in market place, he has to get it back as it indicates they are doing it knowingly or on purpose or they have extremely poor quality standards & perhaps no quality check. There has to be strong deterrent. more
Agreed. In case of any problem arises or noticed by manufacturer in between , the defective batch has to be recalled in the public interest failing which they are fined so heavily that the company would have to close down their operations. more
Any deficiency found in any product, should be withdrawn immediately. more
Absolutely Right. The Product recall has been incorporated under Food safety and Standards Act 2006 as it is being followed in all developed countries and successful. They have a website for consumer product recall. more
