Food/Catering in Railways - 2019 experiences

Given the recent feedback, we would like to revisit the subject of quality of food and catering in Indian Railways. With an intent to understand the issues and root causes, we seek your detailed inputs (Travel Date, Train, Food Experience, etc) on the food quality you have experienced in the last 5 months and specifically the kind of issues you have experienced with food and catering. Also, if you have seen some improvement over the past, please do share the same as well.

We look forward to your inputs! more

On 03.06.19 travelled by Coramodal Express in 2AC from Howrah to Chennai, on 9th June travelled from Coimbatore to Chennai in CC by Shatabdi Expree and 11th June returned from Chennai to Howrah by Coramondal in 2 AC. Observed that food quality is pretty bad, meal charges are not uniform, soup has been discontinued in Shatabdi, sugar free tea is not available despite repeated requests, etc. Infact food quality & catering services are very much detoriated after Mr. Prabhu's departure. For upward & return journey, different rates were charged for veg thali, egg thali, breakfast, etc. Pls. look into it. more
In some cases lunch & dinner can be prepacked like airline and pre-heated in oven to provide warm food to passengers. As far as snacks like cutlets, pakode, omelette etc are concerned, these can be prepared in pantry car. But in case of cutlets I have bad experience. Sometime the pantry staff serve cold tasteless pieces (ie to say cutlets prepared in morning and served in evening) and omelette not properly cooked. more
To maintain standards and quality of food items specifically in railway services, packed food items with date and time of food preparation, list of ingredients used, name and contact details of suppliers so that there is a way to make complaints and get feedback. more
Now in addition to Incredible India, Ministry of tourism should invent teh slogan : INcredible Animal Grade Food on Wheels". Come n Enjoy. It is available only in India. In Fact Railway should approach WTO to grant Railway catering Geographical INdicator Tag as thsi animal food is unique to Railway only. more
Privatisation & outsourcing have converted a group of railway staff to beggars.Previously the AC attendant/coach attendant had some self esteem associated with their work. Now my heart bleeds when at the time of alighting I find the attendants lining up with their palms extended for some cash. Off course it has created some mercedes riders too. more
