FORECASTING THE KUMBH MELA CROWD AND ENSURING ADEQUATE PREPAREDNESS IS A WELCOME STEP :
TO PREVENT FURTHER TRAGEDIES.
As of April 2024, India's population was estimated at 144.17 crore, with over 63.36 crore devotees reportedly taking the holy dip at the Maha Kumbh.
This raises the question—did 43.9% of India’s population actually participate, or did a significant number of devotees take multiple dips?
Had this practice been regulated, much of the tragedy and suffering could have been avoided. The blame does not lie with the Railways or other establishments. Rather, it is the selfish greed of a privileged few who, by taking multiple dips, deprived others of their chance and contributed to the chaos. In doing so, they not only disrupted order but also disrespected the sanctity of the event. Those responsible for overseeing the event should have monitored and controlled. Jai Hind

We should appreciate the efforts put by Yogi Govt, rather then finding fault, in organizing the Kumbh Mela. Such a huge crowed, has broken all records.

In the past or in the present or in the future there is no substitute for self discipline. No laws or no government can enforce this 100 percentage.

Stampede happens at crowded places. The influx of people is too much that it is impossible to control peoples activities. It has happened in Haj and other religious places outside India also. However, the administration has done a splendid job. When one is doing lot of things, one or two may go either way.

Are we going to live another 144 years? then why du we bother about this issue . This is of no use to the present generation, nor our next "few" generations. So please do some thing productive, other than doing investigation on Hindu festivals

Good point. But in no way, in a country where topic of freedom of speech etc are dominating, how and who can control this freedom of travel for a "holy dip"? Citizen's responsibility only can play a role here. Govt can do nothing to control. If trains are reduced it becomes another topic for opposition and many more to chew it! It is very difficult to correctly SAY HOW MANY ARE COMING, BY WHICH MODE, FROM WHICH DIRECTION, AND ON WHICH DAY, ETC by any govt agency!
