Foreigners/NRIs to get rail tkts 1 year in advance

As shared by me in NRI circle, Railways has introduced foreign tourist quota where foreigners/NRIs can pay a little extra and book tickets 1 year in advance.

Helps people like me whose children are overseas and others who have nri relatives but puts common citizen at a disadvantage.

This must be corrected. As an after thought it sounds like Super Premium Category and opens door for Extra Super Premium Category. Not right. more

Is this working? more
There is no point in finding faults in every steps of the government. Does the railways maintain any separate quota for the NRIs/foreign nationals or such advance allotments are made out available normal berths? If so, where is the problem? Let the railways earn a little more bucks from this category of passengers. Our real problem is black marketing of rail tickets and railways inability to provide adequate AC coaches as per demand. The railways should introduce a system of quarterly review of demand and supply of AC berths which will mitigate the issue to the large extent. more
Foreign Tourist Quota unless has been modified is very old system in Indian Railways. You had to pay for ticket in foreign exchange and only foreign passport holder were allowed earlier. If they have done some modification in rules for adding NRI, then I won't be able to comment. more
I certainly am NOT against giving preferences and priorities, e.g. to senior citizens or to bonafide handicapped. But then it should be well planned. Allocate a certain quota of seats/sleepers for these categories, but then there should be an end to the so-called "exceptions". Treat SC and ST and any other similar minorities like normal passengers. The more "exceptions" you build, the more complicated you make your system. more
