FSSAI

I am not of the view that Registration with FSSAI will do any miracle. FSSAI simply registers and does nothing more. They expect that the organizations will automatically become nice. In India nothing works like that till there is some carrot or stick. FSSAI has nothing like that.
I suspect that the process may at the end encourage corruption (one more INSPECTOR).
Best way is that people should be made aware that they should shun any establishment which is not up to the mark.

But there is another side of the story too. Those places which look clean and nice are not so, really. If you visit their storage facilities and kitchens, you will be surprised. They are as dirty as you cannot even imagine. I have visited several and I have seen.

One more issue is that those which look 'clean' charge so high for everything that common citizens cannot afford. After all those people too have to have to eat to survive.

Till our MORAL STANDARD improves it is difficult to do things through registration etc. more

Agreed Mr. Haque. Our moral standards need to be very very high. Only then as a civilization, would we make our lives worthwhile. However we cannot ignore the vital principles of growth and development and rely on morality alone. Morals combined with right action alone could guarantee prosperity with values. more

as Mr Haque rightly said, there is no purpose merely to get the entity registered with the FSSAI, which are not performing its duties sincerely and in the desired manner and discharge their duties by getting the business establishments registered with them only. Though at times we read in news papers that their officials inspected certain establishments engaged in manufacturing eatables and a few hotels/restaurants, these are not more than a process of eye washing to make the consumers fool. The officials of all the government agencies primarily responsible to ensure protection of public interests always remain busy in pleasing their political akas (bosses) in all respects and are in deep sea of corruption. They are usually aware of the happenings but helpless due to their indebtedness towards the dishonest business community taking care of these corrupt officials. more
I fully agree with Mr. Asraul Haque. In fact, Mahatma Gandhi was also against too much control. He had expressed his displeasure against food rationing even in the face of tremendous shortage. He was asking to meet the deficit by import. When someone asked him for his reasoning - his few words reply was "Jaati Bhrast ho jayega" (The nation will become corrupt). Now, we have blackened our character, and hence, there is no other alternative but to keep continuity in our tiger( corruption) riding. If you try to get down, you will be eaten by the tiger;if you continue you will be eaten by the tiger when he stops. Hence, recommend control by FSSAI. more
Yes, I agree. The best option is that moral standard improves. It is not practical to police every one, and every activity. So, do we wait (unknown time frame) until the situation improves automatically? Or, can we suggest progressive incremental corrective actions? If yes, how do we proceed? Each of the above are very difficult questions and are not amenable to one word or one line answer. They only indicate the magnitude of the problems, and unknown indefinite time frame for improvement. Can we start doing one thing? Each one of us must definitely set standards for each of the activity we do, including the mundane, without compromise in spite of delays and difficulty we face. Also, each one of us motivate our family, children first followed by friends and acquaintances. I hope and believe, this approach is a good beginning. Suggest more and better approaches for tackling this very important national problem. All of us wish to see our nation occupy the highest ranking in all fields. more
Registration with FSSAI is mandatory for all FBO (Food Business Operator). From Paan Shop to 5 Star Hotel, to Airline, Hospitals, Angan Wadi, Schools etc. If food is being sold or produced from any location (other than for own cosumption at home) that location/FBO has to be registered with FSSAI. This is the basic requirement. The miracle follows after the registration - the FBO has to work as per FSSAI rules and FSSAI has the mandate to train/counsel the FBO and there after to monitor their work. There are millions of FBO in India. It will take time. Over time, the culture of consumer will also change. Consumer will get choice of hygienically prepared and served food. As FBO gets more educated and consumer gets more educated, safe food will become universally available and demanded. This process will take some years, as ours is a vast nation. more
