FURNISHING INFORMATION on LABEL of PACKAGED and REPACKED FOODS :

FURNISHING INFORMATION on LABEL of PACKAGED and REPACKED FOODS :
The mandatory information for the Customer and Authorities on contents, weight, MRP, Manufacturing Date, Expiry / Use before, and the contact information of Manufacturer are must.

The standard information on the label is printed in thousands of labels. The variable information on MRP, Date etc are stamped after the product is manufactured, Repacked and before being sent to the market.

If you take a look at the attached picture, it indicates “see the bottom” and the required information is stamped at the bottom. If you look at the date the MFD was Jan2021 (for the one which customer had to look at the bottom)and the later ones May 2021. THAT CLEARLY SHOWS THAT ALL THE COMPLAINTS ARE ANALYSED AND ACTION BEGINNING TO BE TAKEN AND EFFECTS ARE BEING FELT. – This may be by some companies only, or supplied to some establishments like Defence , CGHS etc. – So it is good to be alert on all companies, and all over supplies.

Further the H.C. has also directed the Food Safety Dept. to come up with a “MODULE ON HYGIENIC PRACTICES TO BE FOLLOWED BY THE FOOD INDUSTRY”. This should put to rest all the doubts in our minds. - All the same we customers should be alert and come out with short cummings and suggestions now and then to see that the Dept. doesn’t become complacent and the Trader/ Manufacturer continues to follow safe practices and assure safe Food. more

Sometimes I really wonder how long it takes for such "suggestions/reports/comments" to catch the eye of those "responsible" for making and ultimately implementing the necessary changes. more
I may add that our labelling requirements are already perhaps the most complicated and demanding in the world! more
FSSAI, Legal Metrology already have strict labelling regulations. Labelling regulations are often not followed by unorganized/small/tiny/home producers, perhaps out of ignorance. These sectors need guidance in a gentle manner to improve their labelling and conform with the various standards. Also the labelling standards are getting more & more complex and difficult to follow even for the industry, new information being demanded is RDA values and FOPL, Allergens (all of which have good intention). Such a quantity of labelling information is now required, that the surface of small packs is sometimes insufficient, especially given the font size requirements and gaps between numerical and the label becomes cluttered, and forces manufacturers to the smallest permitted font size Often this level of detailing is of little importance to most consumers, who are happy to check basic information such as MRP, dates, names of manufacturers, Ingredients & declarations, consumer complaint email/phone, as most people continue to buy the same brand repeatedly. Information that is rarely studied could be available on the website of the manufacturer/seller, to avoid cluttered labels and make it easier for the consumer to locate and study the basic information they need to make a buying/consuming decision. Whilst consumer activists press authorities to continuously put more information on a label, there should be a considered decision on the usefulness and cost impact and whether in the era of internet such information could be made available on websites. more
In Covid times - we wash each and every product and package with Soap and we find that the stamp vanishes because of soap water. After that - we could not return a few products and lost money. The Industry should understand this and use a different Soap resistant ink. more
Ink marking generally is soap/water resistant. more
The implementation and execution of laws/guidelines in very poor. Many unscrupulous people produce sub standard medicines and sell them without mentioning complete address and mnfg. License No. They sell such items in partnership with Doctors and chemists. There in no accountable authority to check such serious malpractice. more
