Garbage burning rampant in Noida

these are the pics from Noida Sector 120 where garbage is being dumped and burnt by some miscreants and a friend sent thes. This is happening from past 1 month and nothing has been done to stop this. See attached and act DM and UPPCB. more

Solid waste management is required more
The corporaters should be made accountable and summarily dismissed or disqualified from contesting elections for the next 5 years more
Garbage burning will unfortunately continue to exist as long as the local corporators do not ensure that garbage is cleaned from the streets and apartments, regularly. Mere lip service, regulations, fines do not help. They can control the educated middle class to a certain extent. However, the poor cannot afford to pay a monthly tip to the garbage pick up guys or sweepers and hence (even the middle and upper classes) merely throw the waste outside their own house or more commonly on the roads, flyovers or even other people's dustbins! The corporation cannot afford to take action against the vote banks, who anyway cannot / will not pay the fines. We have a Catch 20 situation here, that can be solved if the corporation officers personally monitor the wards and ensure that the garbage is cleared and disposed off as per law. more
It is very unfortunate when there are so many efficient technologies to generate energy and organic fertilizers from organic waste. more
Sri. Vaidyanatha Iyer Thankamani, I think this is the easiest, and inexpensive, way to take care of the garbage, though bad for the air that we breathe

You are correct that there are technologies for this, but it will cost. I am assuming we are talking about household garbage. If it is, the best idea is prevention of generating it. and make it less voluminous. I am assuming the garbage is mostly packaging material. Secondly, there can be a private-public partnership to build infrastructure for processing. It can be collected and processed. It is important that we create awareness among people to be responsible.

A caution: There was an electric generating station built near where I live. The fuel for it was entirely garbage. It was in existence for three or four decades. It was, however, plagued by unfavorable environmental impact, and became cost-prohibitive. Finally, it had to be shutdown. more
