Giving MRP exemption to single brand retail not right
Seems Govt has given some kind lf exemption to single brand retailers like Ikea Decathalon H&M etc because they lobbied saying our cost goes up if we have to publish MRP. That to me is just bogus argument. A label costs 2-3 rupees.
The problem with NO MRP is consumer trust in system. On one hand through all these good initiatives the consumer is made aware to look for MRP and then when they dont find it the answer is Govt exemption.
Plus obviously soon every retailer Indian and Foreign will have their single brand products and demand MRP exemption and the Govt wouldnt be able to refuse.
Please rethink this Dept of Consumer Affairs and MRP enforcement. more

Is there any provision as such? If so, it would be a foolishness on the government's part and the laws should be amended accordingly withdrawing all such concessions. more

It is bogus to say "our cost goes up if we have to publish MRP". Absolutely, there can not be exemption of no MRP for any product in the market. more

As far as the labelling of the price is concerned, I think the Department has considered it and enacted accordingly. It is applicable only for single brand exclusive outlet and the outlet has to tag the prices on the rack as well as the store has to ensure availability of the scanners to read the prices. Additionally the brand has to file the price list with the Department. In case of the store is not meeting crucial point like displaying RSP on the rack or non-availability of the scanner or the store was not willing to share the prices on one pretext or other, a complaint may be raised and if possible take a photo and submit to Legal Metrology. While on this, the Legal Metrology officials also need to visit such outlet at regular interval to ensure compliance of the rules framed out. more
