Giving up senior citizen concession voluntarily
I am a senior citizen (75).Recently while booking a railway ticket on IRCTC portal, I came across an option suggesting me to voluntarily give up the subsidy being given to senior citizens as concession on railway fare. Most of the senior citizens live on the pension that they get or on the interest from their Fixed deposits etc.
If the Ministry of railway is really serious about reducing their losses they should
(1) Withdraw all free passes being given to millions of their retired employees.
(2) Withdraw all subsidies being given to M.Ps and M.L.As who not only travel free of cost themselves but also their employees ,staff and family members. They are the biggest drain on resources.
Take logical decisions rather than suggesting the senior citizens to give up subsidies.

I agree these points. The sr.cistizens should not be penalised.About 54 lakh EPS pensioners are getting only Rs.1000/- to Rs.2500/-as their monthly pension without any hike.They suffer to survive with their spouse.Is it fair to withdraw the concession it is not at all reasonable.There are lot of lwlays and means to raise profit of the rly. more

This is voluntary, not compulsion, so, choice is yours!! Many people, can manage money, very well , after retirement and earn much beyond imagination!! more

Stop free passes to railway employees and government employees first before asking senior citizens to give up concessions.Senior citizens survive on pensions and to give up is unjustified more

Why talk free passes only for 'retired railway employees' - what about free passes during their active service period? They receive the same pay,other allowances benefits like any other Govt. of India employees. Even on temporary duty (outside their usual place of posting), they are entitled to take their spouse,cook,servant, etc. (at least for some categories). First attack the 'have's' in preference to 'haven'ts'/'hadn'ts '. more
