Government Advertisements

It has now become a trend by state and central government to give Print and media advertisements frequently. The reason given for these advertisements is to tell people about their achievements. They earmark huge budget for this purpose.

This is waste of people money because the taxes being paid are for the development of the state and the nation and not for their publicity.

There should be some provisions in the acts, which should specify the purpose for which the taxes collected can be utilized and stop this waste of our hard earned money recovered in the way of taxes. This should not be allowed to be misused for their vote bank publicity.

I request all the members to write their views and suggest the ways how this wastage can be stopped. more

Ruling party should do all publicity of achievements from their party fund, Govt. cannot splurge tax payers money on such things. Govt. should come up with policy to curb this menace. Govt. should use these money only for educating citizens about some special drives like malaria eradication, polio vaccination, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, public awareness, etc. For all other ruling party should send their own fund, if they wish to advertise. There should be one authority established on national level and states level to monitor all govt. advertisements and found guilty of using public fund for any other purpose than awareness drive, fund used should be recovered from ruling party with penalty. more
The UP and Delhi governments are particularly extravagant in this ad spree. Akhilesh Yadav and Arvind Kejriwal must be brought to book for the criminal wastage of public funds. more
It is unfortunate to note that the govts (both at the center and the states) have to show their performance in black & white. the simple reason being that there good work is not perceivable to the naked eye. the govt says it is working and the public says it is NOT. how to bridge the gap? these advts provide the link between the reality and the perception. Nothing wrong in publishing your achievements; the party which is ruling the country/state should bear the cost; and not the exchequer. shamelessly the govt is allocating budgetary funds from promoting their interests; And the most unfortunate happening is that the courts are silent about it; these court officials are at the mercy of the govts for their postings and well being; the beneficiaries are the pvt channels; if the govts want to blow their trumpets let them do it on the DD channels and not on pvt channels; DD also cannot charge for the advts; more
Major portion of the income comes from tax and since last few years the rate of tax has increased manifold, resulting sufficient income in the hands of the Government. The result of high income is spending without any control. The salary of the MPs & MLAs have increased in manifold, the advertisement has increased, the expenditure of government has increased. Government goes on spending on advertisement and thereby beating their own drum. more
Dear Sir, It is right to say that the CENTRE AND State and Local Govts.are wasting public money to show their achievements.likewise the advertisements and tenders are given to their party Newspapers often avoding the most ciculated ones without any party affiliation thus reducing competition which is the purpose of tenders.Even the Local Governments are insisted by their party men to publish their tenders in their party Newspapers which has only limited minimum circulation the law insists. All these cases are violation of democratic norms social justice and against people,s mandate. So the law on advertisements and tenders should be amended ,by public pressure ,I think, Ravindranathan.M.K 15-6-2016 On 12-Jun-2016 16:42, "Ashok Malhotra" wrote: > more
