Govt must cut excise duty on petrol and diesel

This will be Rs 11.77 per litre on petrol and Rs 13.47 on diesel and is the need of the hour.

Request consumer afffair ministry and LocalCircles to escalate our concern to Finance Ministry. more

Yes Cut excise duty other duty more
Both center and state govts have to cut on taxes or bring it under GST.This is the need of the hour. more
As per today's news papers, taxes on petrol & diesel in aggregate(central & state governments) are 47% & 38% respectively, which, by no means could be proclaimed as reasonable. All our neighbouring countries much small in size and economy than ours, are giving these products to their citizens at much cheaper prices. Are we really spending these revenues recovered disproportionately from the citizens for development of the country and welfare of its people? Why the government lacks its efforts to plug the loop holes leading to corruptions and to stop corruptions perpetrated by the politicians? more
Neither the Central Govt. can afford to reduce Excise Duty nor States can do so as it will disturb their finances. The expenditure on governance is increasing with each passing day like salaries, perks, pensions, privileges. No political party talks about reduction in routine expenditure and curtailing wasteful one. Instead they remain busy in increasing benefits to various groups of Govt. machinery. The Govt. must reduce the cost of governance by 30% to spare sufficient funds for development and to improve basic amenities to public at large. To start with, Excise Duty and VAT on petroleum products should be reduced by 10% to give immediate relief to general public. more
Yes, there is need to review the freebies/subsidies to avoid
their misuse as many of such items find their way in the black
market. The 'poor' people are also not lagging behind in misusing
the tax payer's money. There is large scale corruption in NREGA
and MNREGA. The whole system need to be revamped but the
dirty indian vote bank politics will not allow that. more
A lot of people are given undue subsidies in terms of MNREGA, BPL

It makes sense if the government aims at getting 10-20% out of that bracket year on year...

We are paying a lot of taxes for this purpose and they are going down the drain, literally!

I have a maid [in our society] who makes 30-35 K in terms of salaries, eats most of her meals in our colony itself, and
- sells 10 of the 12 cylinders in black [for commercial use] that she gets with subsidy
- sells the rice she gets at Re.1/Kg to other homes at Rs.10/kg
- pays no tax despite falling in the bracket of at least fillng her returns -- gets all the benefits she is not eligible for

There are many more whose income one cannot make out like auto drivers, tempo / trucks, etc. Quite a few from these are actually in the evading tax crowd, ineligible for the benefits that are actually directed towards our economically backward countrymen!

The day one handles this problem, we too could be freed of a lot of taxes [probably even IT]. more
The states have to cut vats. The excise duty was cut earlier, but only a few states under BJP ruled reduced vat, others have not co-operated. Best way to bring Petrol and Diesel under GST. more
