Govt to launch Medical insurance for Delhiites
New Delhi: The Delhi Cabinet chaired by the CM Arvind Kejriwal has given its approval for introducing a health insurance scheme for everyone in the state.

Slated to empanel government and private hospitals, it will be rolled out by the end of this year, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said.
“There will be three categories for payment of premium, the highest payment for which should not exceed Rs 3,000 annually. For those below poverty line, the government will pay the premium and effectively open up private healthcare for those who have not been able to afford it so far,” the minister said.
Everyone with a valid proof of residence in the capital – passport, voter ID or Aadhaar card – will be eligible for the scheme.
The scheme, which draws many features from similar ones in Andhra and Tamil Nadu, will cover 1,800 medical procedures.
“An accident insurance will be included, which may be free for everyone, under which it will be mandatory for all hospitals, empanelled or not, to admit and treat an accident victim. Police will have to take an accident victim to the nearest hospital instead of a government one,” Jain said.
Officials in the state health department said the scheme is expected to cost the government well over Rs 700 crore. more

Dear Ram Yadav ji, I agree the premium cap of Rs.3000 max is not very good. However as mentioned in the post: "For those below poverty line, the government will pay the premium and effectively open up private healthcare for those who have not been able to afford it so far" - a burden factor associated "expected to cost the government well over Rs 700 crore." Higher premium policies come with many terms and conditions, exclusions-exemptions which cannot be accommodated in a simple plan. The very basic and common ailments to be addressed at first is satisfactory. A limited alternate at present is CGEPHIS (Central Government Employees & Pensioners Health Insurance Scheme) - for Central government employees only. @Vinod Sahni Ji, The Central Government is already working on a cashless health insurance scheme for senior citizens, I will try to share the updates on it soon. Around Rs 10,000 crore is lying unclaimed in banks and insurance companies, EPFO and small savings schemes — would be utilized for providing the health insurance cover to the elderly. In my opinion, personally, starting with only this much cover is also good to prevent any flood of fraudulent entries/applicants. Misuse by the Hospitals using inflated Bills will also be difficult due to a not very high value cover. Sir, R Venkatesh Govind ji, I agree, our focus over the basics must be primary. more

THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY AGE LIMITS AND ALL CITIZENS SHOULD BE COVERED. SENIOR CITIZENS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN MOST OF THE HEALTH INSURANCES OR THEY ARE HIGHLY CHARGED. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. SECONDLY THE HEALTH INSURGENCE SCHEMES ARE MISUSED BY THE HOSPITALS AND NURSING HOMES AND INFLATED BILLS ARE RAISED, WHICH THE PATIENT IS FORCED TO SIGN. PATIENT IS LESS CONCERNED, AS HE IS NOT PAYING FROM THE POCKET, BUT THE SYSTEM IS BEING LOOTED. A CHECK ON THIS IS ALSO NECESSARY. more

This is good initiative of AAP Government. However, the highest premium Rs 3,000/- is still on higher side. Govt must share upto 50% in this contribution. The scheme is very good and upbeat BJP who are corrupt in devising such scheme. The people need shuch type of scheme which would be very populazr if implemented in letter and spirit. Ram Yadav more
