WE RECEIVED THE THE INVOICE FROM THE SHIPPING LINE AND THEY ALSO CHARGED GST ON OCEAN FREIGHT
THUS ON ONE TRANSACTION TWO TIME GST IS COLLECTED
SO WHERE IS THE FORMULA ONE NATION ONE TAX

The GST charged on Invoice Value plus Ocean Freight is equivalent to the Base Customs Duty on the imported material. Customs Duty is computed on Assessable Value (AV) and AV should include Ocean Freight. GST on Ocean Freight charged by Shipping Company is like Service Tax on Freight Services. So there does not seem to be any double taxation. However, please make sure that you get the Input Credits for both these GST payments when you finally assess the GST on the Output made from the imported material. Hope this clarifies. more

If the Ocean Freight is mentioned on Invoice then Custom Dept. can't charge GST again on Ocean Freight but in the case if Ocean Freight is not mentioned on Invoice then the Custom Dept. is right to charge GST on Ocean Freight and in this case it's not double taxation as you have to pay GST on Material cost as well as on Ocean freight. You will get the input credit for both. more
