GST implementation
Despite 17 years of deep thinking of Indirect Tax reform, the Authorities rolled out GST in a typical Indian style, which, of course, our bureaucrats are adept at. From day one, it turned out to be a hotchpotch implementation.
Manufacturers, traders, service providers, etc were clueless about what GST rate is applicable to their businesses. Even tax experts and consulting firms kept changing their interpretation almost on a daily basis.
The GST return filing process is also not easy. One will be on an emotional roller coaster while filing GSTR-1 (Outward supplies). Oops GSTR-2 & 3 to follow.
The GSTN portal runs like an old rice mill. Its apparent that the Authorities failed to do a proper testing before releasing the system. Absolute mess.
There are quite a lot of products which are overcharged at 18% GST as against 5%. I guess this merry making is still continuing . A 13% difference is too much for a common man. In my view GST is misused to the maximum extent possible. Government, as usual, remains a mute spectator.
My request to the Local Circles Management is instead of merely conducting polls on GST, pls depute some of your panel members to go around and collect tangible evidence of the impact of GST on common man. Highlight the facts in as-is form (ie without any filteration) in this forum and also share the list of companies/traders/restaurants who indulge in profit making thru taxes.
I heard from my friends that some of the traders in North India have already started selling GST Adjustment bills @ 9% commission. There is also a debate that its 4% more than earlier tax regime adjustment bills. Let your panelist investigate this fake bill racket and disclose the names of those traders/corporates , irrespective of their political affiliation. more
