Comparing Singapore & India is like comparing apples & Oranges. The tax compliance rate of India is too poor nad the tax evasion is is high. The complexities and the Govt requirement for welfare-schem is extra-ordinary. Size is another factor. Most of all the corruption levels over the 60-70 years has been groomed and expanded. The legal remedies are excruciatingly painful and pathetic. more

Yes, GST is one of the sources of income of the Government. All taxation in any country barring a few middle East countries, is a source of income of these countries. More the income of the country, there shall property and the fruits are finally borne by the general public. The Government has no personal bank account where they accumulate the tax money. The more the income of a country, more welfare measures can be anticipated. more

We used to live in Singapore when GST was introduced there. What we learned then, was: GST basically taxes the enduser, viz. the man on the street who does not have a GST number. Those registered under GST get their GST reimbursed. Hence, the GST cannot be high. And, it also should not be used as a "source of income" for the government. more
