GST number is designed to compromise your details

Dumbest thing in GST is using PAN as GST number and Mandating displaying GST number in Sign Boards. So that everyone on street knows our PAN.

PAN is used as password in income tax documents, bank statements and in fintech. Dumb more

Government will take no action unless it hurts them. Same goes for the babus. If an incident happens with the government favorite rich industry, the babus and the departments will get kicked and then this may change to a more common sense number - which is guaranteed to cost the common man and industries a lot of money. Similar to useless name changing games going on in cities and localities. more
Incorporating PAN was a bad idea. They could have used the original TIN number since all the paperwork was already done. The babus have no clue about automation and rigidly follow the British paperwork system. Imagine signing a document several times on the same page and reverse pages, just to satisfy them. This is a useless rule that does not use common sense, since anyone who signes a page has accounted for the entire contents and not line by line, including corrections. The same paperwork has been transferred to the computer version where we need to fill in our names and addresses several times for no reason except to massage their egos. I wish the government looks into this and has a panel to review all the stuipd paperwork to make it more intelligently implemented and shorter. more
For IT, it is just not PAN but also date of birth. more
GST was implemented in such a hurry that the babus did not apply their minds to the process. Babus usually take the easiest way out and this has now resulted in compromising the security and safety of all GST users. If it was implemented with the CIN number or using the original VAT number, the process would have been more secure for everyone. Now industries have to deal with obsolete numbers from all these tax departments who may raise enquiries suddenly to make a quick buck. I know my VAT, Service Tax, KST and such numbers are useless now, but we still keep the paperwork because we are scared of the babus pouncing on us for silly reasons. more
