GST on restaurants now 5%

If they get their act together and stop charging forced service charge, it can be nice boom for eating out. more

This has not happened because of flexibility of the government. On the contrary, assembly elections in two states, specifically in Gujarat has forced them to leave stubbornness and come to the terms. One must remember that the GST was delayed by around a couple of years as the government was unable to reach to a consensus with the oppositions, specifically, with Congress, which had proposed that the highest rate of GST should not be more than 18%. It was Jaitley who was repeatedly insisting on the rate of 28% and ultimately he could convince Congress, which had already lost its teeth in all elections held in the recent past and had no option but to agree. Jaitley, being a billionaire himself, does not have a sense of feeling of hardships & sufferings of the common man, who are in majority of our total population and always remains in the endeavour of loading some new financial burden on them. His yesterday's remarks on the tax cut on various household items indicate that he was not happy with the proposals but had to accept with no choice left for him. more
The present BJP government should be congratulated for being flexible and continue to review their own policies in accommodating the common mans opinion and opposition party’s advice. Such receptive governments have a lot of backing from the citizens.God bless them. more
Through GST, the government is charging upto 28% instead of 15% charged earlier. The public is silent with the hope that government is taking steps to rationalise. Let us hope things improve. more
Ya nice move. Regarding service charges, normally I ask them to remove and mostly I am successful. Otherwise I don't pay tips. We have to act wisely if they think they are smarter. more
yes that is some solution to avoid it, but in the bargain poor waiters are deprived of some side income, as service charge in most cases are pocketed by the owners. more
