GST Rate Increase

Reading in the news that the Government is considering increasing gst rate from 5% to 6% for items in this bracket? Issues - Since the difference is small, will be very difficult to catch profiteering. Also, most of the items in 5% category affect common people and the poor. by increasing gst, wont the pinch be more esp since people are already struggling with high veggie prices, hit on earnings due to farm distress etc.

Please think this through FM. more

There is need for decreasing the rate of GST in some selected sector like Health Insurance, but there should not be any increase. It is rather necessary that the expenditure should be reduced in luxuries to the elected representatives and reduction in the security arrangement to MPs and MLAs. more
Plugging loopholes of tax evasion is more important than upward revision of tax brackets for an increased revenue, otherwise the amount of increased tax will also be eaten up by the dishonest manufacturers and the traders. more
Most of the items in 5% category affect common people and the poor and any further rise will affect only common man. Initially the intention was to put the burden on manufacturers and traders, but latter it was shifted to buyers. Common people are treated like camels on the desert where the merchants with the animals load more and more baggages, and finally remove very small bag and show it to animal and throw it down, so that the animal would be happy to carry all the loads already put on it. This is the fate of Indian common man. more
GST is a value added tax. Hence, any increase will become manifolded affecting the public. With inflation and unemployment on the rise this will be a very bad move. more
