Before criticising the government, please have a look around you.

You live in a very poor country.

If you are buying shoes above 15k or watches above 25k - you are in a much better position than your fellow countrymen.

You are not just the 1%, you are the 0.1% or perhaps even more elite.

80 crore people don’t have enough money to eat.

90% of Indians earn less than 25000 a month.

So if you can afford to spend that on a shoe or a watch - you should be paying more taxes.

You should not curse the government but understand it is your bad luck that you were born in such a poor country.

You should understand that it is your lack of talent or initiative that you were not able to leave the country.

The government is not doing anything wrong.

Higher consumption taxes on luxury items is the only possible way to tax the rich. more

PROBLEM IS GOVERNMENTS CLASSIFICATION. EVEN AFTER CHARGING SO HIGH, THERE IS NO RELIEF TO MIDDLE CLASS.NOTHING WRONG TO CHARGE SUPER LUXURY LIKE EXPENSIVE CARS ETC. BUT WHAT BENEFITS ARE GIVEN TO COMMON MAN? more  
Don't say we are a poor country. We were at one time, but not now. None will agree that 80 crores population don't have food to eat. Its the freebies and politicians (by way of their salaries and pension + fringe benefits) are draining our money. How many of you are aware that the free ration these so called "poor" get free sell it off for cash. Taxation in our country is heavy but we don't raise voice against freebies announced by various governments irrespective of the political party? How many of you are aware that what amount of money is spent on the salaries and pensions and fringe benefits to the politicians? Wherefrom this money comes? from the taxes we pay. So heavy taxes is a matter of concern for us. don't justify it. more  
There is no harm in taxing luxury items more because the users of such items are capable of paying the extra cost. But which are the luxury items today? A few decades ago, all the items meant to provide some kind of comfort were now must household items for common people. They were being treated as luxury items attracting higher taxes and were a dream to possess by a common man! But today even a daily wage worker possesses many of such items. As such, the grade of the household items be decided as per their prices and taxed accordingly. more  
TRuly said and all sin products and highly expensive products who buy when they can afford to buy say a refrigerator for One lakh can pay a little more than a common man who first thinks of feeding his family than on these kind of luxuries. more  
It may appear true, but no one is sure in future more items of low value will not be covered. It's happening in this regime. No one usually purchase such products regularly, it's truly an occasional choice on a special event. So such initiative is not a good idea. more
