Here is an opportunity for the Department of Consumer Affairs,GoI, to assert itself and protect consumers from the illegal charge of GST/CGST on the products that are mandated to be inclusive of all taxes but still charged from consumers. This is the opportunity for the Department of Consumer Affairs, GoI, to seek refund of all such money that will become un-refundable after a couple of years. National Anti Profiteering Authority (NAA) (CBEC) is another body to by pass the right of consumers to seek refund of the money that is overcharged and find ways and means to divert it to some imaginary Fund or amend another The Finance Act of India like they have done in the Case of The Finance Act 2015 - Chapter VII on Senior Citizens' Welfare Fund, as if they are doing out of tax revenue under Consolidated Fund of India. more

It is to be made clear by the authorities whether the MRP on all the retail items in the market across the country are inclusive of all taxes? This is a cause of generating black money, as the retailers are charging CGST/GST on all the retail items the legality of which has to be confirmed. more
clarification has already been given in last month by GST Deptt New Delhi,on this local circle that MRP is inclusive of all charges including GST more
Since introduction of the GST 15 months ago, the government has brought down the tax rates on not less than 500 items on more than 15 occasions but had rarely bothered to ensure that the tax cut benefits have actually been passed on to the consumers by bringing down the prices of the related products by the manufacturers/traders. If it is so incompetent than what made it to add the tax slab of 28% to the original draft proposal stipulating the highest rate of tax as 18%? Since the present government was adamant to add this 28% despite vehement opposition by the parties in opposition, particularly, the congress, reaching to a consensus for the new taxing system was delayed by a year or so. It is nothing but a corrupt practice now to reduce the tax rates every now and then without ensuring that the consumers are not duped! more
Comparing cost structure or product costing for fiscal years before and post GST can help to find out if the manufacturers have manipulated costing data to absorb excise duty and now charging GST on the inflated cost of production distribution, packing, etc. As I know, Cost Audit is mandatory for all manufacturers. It involves preparing detailed cost sheets and statistical reports and submitting to the government agencies every year. Same way like submitting audited final accounts. However, there are n number of ways to manipulate costing. Law breakers are smarter and one step ahead of the governing bodies. This type of investigation, even if restricted to large scale manufacturers will need lot of time, efforts, patience and cost. Ministries of Industry, Corporate Affairs, GST (and old Excise and Sales Tax departments), etc. should already be having huge historical data in this context. But public in general is not going to press for it and the beurocracy is not going to take the call unless compelled by a court order. more
