Gurgaon has only 356 policemen
Let us hope with the new Govt and MP, we get some push.

GURGAON: More than 140 people have been killed and 250 injured in over 400 road accidents this year in Gurgaon. After every such accident, cops have promised better traffic management but the roads haven't gotten any safer.
With only 356 cops available against the need for 1000, the traffic police too is handicapped with the state government doing nothing to fill the vacancies. In fact, the number of traffic cops has declined from 380 in 2012 and there are only 150 constables who man the Millennium City's roads.
"The shortage of police personnel is leading to lawlessness on roads. We don't even have enough constables to deploy on major traffic intersections, forget the lanes and by-lanes," a senior traffic cop said.
A policeman deployed near Sector 10, where the accident took place on Wednesday, said traffic has increased exponentially but the number of cops available to monitor roads was a drastic mismatch. "Most accident cases are the result of speeding or driver's negligence. Drivers of commercial vehicles and private buses are habitual offenders. But I alone can't challan every offender," he said.
Another traffic cop posted on NH-8 said constables have to work long shifts because of staff shortage. "Each one of us has to do three people's job making it difficult to function," he added.
Police commissioner Alok Mittal said his department has repeatedly asked the state to increase manpower but things are moving at very slow pace. "These things cannot happen overnight as new recruits need to be trained before being deployed and this takes time," he said adding that police had launched several drives to crackdown on errant drivers.
"We have been trying our best to maintain discipline on the roads and challan about 1500 people every day for an array of offences," he added. more
