Hacking of account with income tax department
Income Tax account of a person has been hacked three times during last four days. The modus - operandii has been that the OTP is delivered onto a registered mobile to change the password. Even without using the OTP, the password for log- in to the account has been changed. A message thereafter is received each time stating that the request for change in password has been successfully completed. This has been done three times in the last four days.
Any useful information that can be shared by some experts or any assistance by any of the experts in the local circle community in tracing the location and IP address from where the password request has been issued and unauthorised log in/ transaction taking place. He has all the three transaction IDs. more

Sir, no password has been shared. Modus operandii is that the hacker while logging in put forget password. An OTP was issued but the site is so insecure even without using OTP, password got changed. more

Can we rule out IT Department officials involvement to hack account to fish out information on tax defaults/underpayment of taxes etc. Government has been vehemently pushing digital transition despite 60 to 70% rural folks who are still in learning curve of utilization of apps. more

We cannot rule out involvement of IT department but not for scrutiny purpose but aiding to some of their own or at some cost. more

In that case they would not have attempted three times. In case the staff want to see for information on tax defaults/under payments, they do not need to log into the assessee account like in bank. The IT officials for their internal checks have different log in module. more

What harm exactly is possible to an individual whose income tax account login password is changed by third person? In fact Income Tax Department should be more concerned about it because that individual can not be held responsible for all its submissions. Please view this matter from this perspective. But in any case that individual must inform the concerned officials of Income Tax department by email at least. more

Our financial detais once in public domain can not be secret. But I do agree that such exposure should not take place and Income Tax department must take the responsibility and address the matter once reported. more

Sir, if it would not have been harmful, then there would not have been need of the password. In case your password is hacked, then all your financial details can be taken by scrupulous people. more
