Handicapped Compartment Position in Indian Trains
Dear Sir,
With due respect, first of all i will like to thank as we provide Handicapped Compartment in most of the Indian Railway Trains.
But recently seeing a scenario it made me to think and write to you that the position of the Handicapped compartment in not suitable as it is either on starting or ending of the train.
This gives immense efforts to Handicapped passengers to approach towards their respective compartment, which on that day was like punishment for that handicapped person.
We know that we provide wheel chairs and lifts at all railway stations, but many times they are not approachable and it becomes difficult to reach on those platforms which are in middle of exist or entrance of the station. (Platforms in between first and last Platforms)
I will like to request you to change the position of the Handicapped Compartment in somewhere middle of the train, so that this service towards humanity does not become punishment for these handicapped passengers.

With increasing old age population, railways need to look at introducing facility of coupe (capacity of 2 or 4) in all classes where people of old age / handicapped can travel aling with their attendant / relatives. These coupe shall be available for reservation as single unit. more

Well, here I defer from the views of Mr Chinmay regarding the position of bogies for the handicapped. The basic purpose of this is to avoid the rush and getting hurt if a handicapped person tries to board the coach. At the end coaches there is no risk as such. By the way a handicapped person has to start a bit early to avoid any eventuality. more

I very well buy your point, and not only fine the people travelling in Handicap compartment but also ask them to get down and change the compartment on the nearest stoppage available. I feel the scenario today is " fining someone gives them licence to carry on the same mistake more fearlessly" more

Mr Chinmay you forgot the problem faced by handicap person travelling in Handicap compartment. people who are not handicap and railway staff are always found travelling in Handicap compartment which cause disconfort to Handicap travelers. Railway police don't bother about handicap persons and Railways never check Handicap compartment. People who are not handicap if found travelling must be fined as per law and ensure that only handicapp people travel in handicap compartment more
