Handicrafts

In the earlier tax regime , Handicrafts were exempt from Excise and had very low VAT rates in most states.
Under GST , there is no mention of the word Handicrafts . Each category will be in different slabs and most fall under 28%. This needs to be rectified as Handicrafts generate huge employment.
Most metal Handicrafts made in India are subject to 28% where similar end use products are under 12 or 18% and thus promote cheap low cost Chinese Imports .
What is the solution ?
Secondly the same Mets handicraft products can be categorised in different HSN codes with different rates. What is the solution ? more

As long as the Revenue of the Entity / Individual is less than Rs.20L, GST is not attracted anyway as there is NO REGISTRATION requirement. Only when the buyer is a GST Registered entity, the buyer is liable to both pay and claim GST Credit under its GST Return .... As such the Small Businesses in Handicrafts are outside GST purview - as far as large businesses, traders & intermediaries are concerned, there is no reason for them to "benefit" from product based exemptions. more
GST on handicraft items should be low as it generates employment. more
I have also raised similar query earlier but it missed attention of concerned gst council members attention, as most of Handicrafts makers are small scale and many employments are generated thr handicraft sector, govt should infact make it as 5% tax as max !!! more
Yes,As described by Neeraj, gods earnings ,are not accounted and kept in a treasure Box.In fact many are modified and remade with loss in melting and pilferage/theft and final loss. Accounting is key to modern life. Tax is necessary[1]population increased[2]huge crowds believe what governments, orchestrated morality. Governments not building new/big area temples[and leaving people to mercy-with 4 times population increase from 1950] more
Village craft and Factory craft should have different percentage to help Cottage Industry. more
