Health Circle is a must

May I request the editorial team of local circles to initiate a health circle at the earliest so patients from across India can share their experiences. Health is such an important matter where such time sharing and learning can save lives.

See what J&J supposedly leading medical company did to its hip replacement patients. Gave them bad product, inserted into their bodies, no compensation and never told regulators the Govt. Some have even died.

The Indian arm of Johnson & Johnson, one of the leading global pharma majors, “suppressed” key facts on the harmful aftermath of surgeries conducted on hundreds of patients in the country using “faulty” hip replacement systems it imported and sold.
In a “clear abdication of responsibility”, it did not inform the national regulator about the exact number of patients who used these devices, the adverse reports following such surgeries and the corrective operations subsequently conducted. It also “did not provide any compensation” to those affected.

These findings form the core of a report prepared by an expert committee set up by the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to investigate complaints on the hip implant devices sold by the company in India. The committee, which was set up on February 8, 2017, submitted its report on February 19, 2018. The Government is yet to implement the recommendations.
The report states that over 3,600 patients with the faulty implants remain untraceable, and that at least four deaths have been reported from those who underwent surgeries using these devices. more

As far as J&J-Depuy are concerned, they need keep the details of the patients available with them ready in following categories. First, those who have undergone revision surgeries, whose names and other details are available with J&J, and to whom some amounts were reimbursed already. Second, those who have undergone revision surgeries, whose names and other details are available with J&J, and to whom there has been no Reimbursement made so far. Third, those who have undergone revision surgeries, but whose names and other details are NOT available with J&J. Fourth, those who have been fixed with these implants, but have neither undergone any revision surgery, nor have been registered with J&J. It is observed that the stress is given only to the third & fourth categories, which is a never ending job, and in which J&J is neither required to Reimburse any amount, nor is required to give any Compensation. The FIRST & SECOND CATEGORIES, are the MOSTLY hit category of patients, who have undergone the Revision surgeries, and are registered with J&J, While J&J can continue to hunt for the patients having undergone the revision surgeries, simultaneously they MUST give more importance to the patients who are already registered with them, for which, they need to open a special cell with a specific special email address to interact with such patients. But no such steps appear to have been taken by J&J, and probably, J&J wants to prolong the matter to delay the process as much as possible. Why can’t the Regulator issue instructions to J&J to contact all patients who have undergone Hip Joint Revision Surgeries, and are registered with them, and start submitting a monthly /quarterly report to the Regulator about the cases for which a demand for Reimbursement and Compensation is received by J&J through such emails, and what part of it,if any, is settled by J&J. more
